Officer Cadet Warahena Liyanage Ravishka Ishan Premakumara of Gemunu was adjudged the most scientific boxer at the first ever Inter-Squadron Boxing meet 2020 conducted by the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU).

KDU being one of the emerging boxing clubs in Sri Lanka, the meet was organized with the aim of identifying amateur boxers among graduates, according to the Officer in charge of Boxing at the university in Kandawala Lt. Cdr. Manjula Sakalasooriya.

Out of 136 men and women pugilists, 18 bouts were worked in the finals held on February 24 at the KDU gymnasium. Parakum squadron emerged overall champions.

Vice Chancellor of KDU Major General Milinda Peiris, graced the occasion as chief guest on the final day.

Premakumara, a 23-year-old past pupil of Nalanda, a third year Bio medicine student at KDU gave a classy performance to win the Welter weight (B) title.

Officer Cadet Chirath Dewmith Epa of Parakum was chosen as the Best Boxer in the men’s category after winning the Light weight (A) title outpointing Junior Officer Cadet K.G.N.S. Karunaratne also of Parakum who got the Best Loser’s award. Epa, a second year Social Science student is a product of Ranabima Royal.

Junior Lady Officer Cadet Mahadolage Jayathilini of Parakum was chosen as the Best Boxer in the women’s category after winning the Bantam weight final. A first year medical student, 20-year-old Jayathilini is a product of St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo. Junior Lady Officer Cadet  M.A. Amarasinghe of Parakum who was runner-up in the Light Fly weight class was picked as the Best Loser.
