The education unions have planned to hold a protest next week, demanding the interim allowances promised to teachers and principals be given immediately.

Around 26 education unions had joined forces to form one voice and they had sent a letter to the Education Ministry.

In this letter, they asked for arrangements to be made to solve this issue by February 3. They said all teachers and

principals will hold a protest on February 14 outside Fort railway station if the delayed payments are not handed out.

The CTU had also planned a ‘sick leave campaign’ for February 26, where all teachers and principals will participate in a nationwide strike action.
