Government to provide more higher education opportunities

The Government has designed a programme to provide Certificate/ Diploma /Higher Diploma training opportunities for students who pass the GCE A/L exams. The programme aims at training youth for Software Production and lnternet and lnformation Technology related employment, in the local and international job market.

The Government said it will begin this programme in 2020, with a 1000 training opportunities and will increase the number to 3000.

The cabinet of ministers approved of the proposal presented by Higher Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena to conduct these training courses based on the  the Diyagama Technical lnstitution affiliated to the Moratuwa University. They also approved of a committee of public and private sector experts to contribute towards designing these courses.

The cabinet had also approved the proposal of an Education Task Force comprised of field experts to; come up with educational reforms programmes and strategies, support the implementation of these programmes and strategies, provide guidance for the institution and monitor the training courses.
