University of Sabaragamuwa sweeps the board
University of Sabaragamuwa (UOS) swept the board at the 13th Sri Lanka University Games to be crowned as Men’s and Women’s Overall Champions at the Sugathadasa Stadium last weekend.
Sabaragamuwa with 101 points led in the Men’s events while the UOS Women with 147 points clinched the Women’s Overall Championship. Universities of Colombo and Sri Jayawardenapura with 82 and occupied the second spots respectively.
R.R.D. Ranatunga of University of Sabaragamuwa with three meet records to his name stole the limelight at the meet while Omaya Udayangani also of Sabaragamuwa University and R.M. Nifras of University of Colombo establishing two meet records each were outstanding in the meet.
In this competition which concluded in a high note was marked with establishing of 14 meet records. Athletes from 14 universities took part in the event.
Dominating the team events, University of Sabaragamuwa conqured the much awaited spirit relay the 4x100m Men’s event with a new record time of 42.49secs and went on to win the 4x400m relay with an excellent time of 3:24.75mts. - LR
