Sri Sangamitta and Bandarapola MV win doubles
Division ‘A’ Under-15 champs -- St. Joseph’s Girls, Gampola
Sri Sangamitta Girls NS Matale and Bandarapola MV Matale clinched two titles each at the Matale Centre Qualifying Tournament of the Milo All-Island Schools Netball Championship 2019 concluded at Sri Sangamitta NS ground in Matale.
Sri Sangamitta girls came out on top to win the Under-17 and Under-19 titles, outplaying defending champions St. Joseph’s Balika Vidyalya, Gampola in the two respective finals of the Division ‘A’ competition, for school with over 1000 students.
However St. Joseph BV managed to retain the Under-15 title, defeating Sri Sangamitta girls Matale in a closely contested final.
In the Division ‘B’ competition, for schools with less than 1000 students, Bandarapola MV Matale excelled to annex the Under-15 and Under-19 titles. Their chances of winning a triple crown was shattered when they were defeated by Sujatha Balika MV, Kumbiyangoda Matale in the Under-17 final.
Division ‘A’ Under-17 champs -- Sri Sangamitta Girls, Matale
The qualifying tournament in the Matale Centre, which was organised by the Sports Education Advisor, Ramya Hendeniya of the Matale Education Zone, under the guidance of Sri Lanka Schools Netball Association, attracted 75 girls teams from the districts of Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Gampola, Katugastota and Teldeniya educational regions in the Kandy district.
The completion of the Qualifying Tournament of Matale Centre saw 17 teams qualifying for the finals, which comprised four teams each in Division ‘A’ Under-15,17 and 19 age groups and two teams each in the Division ‘B’ Under-15 and 17 age groups and only one from the Under-19 age category. - LDC
