Yet again the much awaited event of the year transformed into a reality on Saturday, 9th March 2019, when the Primary School of the St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, held their annual Sports Meet.

Talents were shown, Coloured flags flew high, hopes of the little ones saw glory, expectations of the parents were met, most of all it was an unforgettable day for the Priestly Community and the teachers of the Primary School.

Sports Meet gives an opportunity for everyone to participate as a team to achieve one goal. A sense of winning is created in little minds. Our goal as a school is to teach them to face challenges through healthy competition; to learn these good virtues outside classrooms; to give them a glimpse of the outer world and prepare them to be successful human beings in the society.

The great Cricketer, Mr. Kapil Dev once said, “Apart from education, you need good health; and for that you need to carry out sports”.

Six weeks that lead to 9th March, indeed made a big difference in the lives of the kids. They learnt a lot specially to deal between victory and defeat; collected many experiences; gathered many friends.

Team De La Salle won the Award for the Best House, Grade 2 B won the Award for the Best Class amongst Grades 1 & 2 classes. Mast Nadeen Maheesha of Bonaventure House became the All Round Champion of the Meet. The Drill Display this time took the shape of Gymnastics performed by the Grade 5 students and a Karate Show was performed by the students of Karate Academy.

Every child had the opportunity to participate in events ranging from Track events, Field Events, Team relays, Basketball, Tennis, Badminton, Cricket matches and Swimming.

The Western and the Oriental Bands were fascinating. The display of drums by the Oriental Band brought out the hidden talents of these youngsters.  It was “A great team effort” when Rev. Fr. Rector, Rev. Fr. Ranjith Andradi, Primary Principal Rev. Fr. Priyan Tissera, the Teachers, Students and all parents got together shouldering the given responsibilities to the fullest to make this dream come true.

Prof. Neil Alles, Professor in Biochemistry, Dept. of Biochemistry, Head/ Technical Resource Centre (TRC), Deputy Proctor, Co-Chairperson/ Communication Technology & Technical Resource Committee, Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradenya, an old boy of
St. Sebastian’s College was the Chief Guest at this event.
