Teacher Unions have threatened to resume trade union action during the next term, if they fail to receive favourable responses to their demands, including clearing salary arrears. Ceylon Teacher Services Union General Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe said their trade union action conducted this week was successful, but failed to draw a response from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and therefore, remains unresolved.

He said teachers will assist in conducting the 1st Term exams, expecting the government to resolve the issues concerning them. However, if they fail to resolve the issues they will recommence their trade union action in the next term commencing April 22. “We expect the MoE to resolve the issue, not the Finance Ministry,” he added - DW
