The Group of 2004 of Royal College Colombo (RCG ‘04) celebrated its 15th year anniversary while continuing with the commitment of the group’s members with successful projects. The RCG ‘04 ended a successful year in 2018 by completing three projects, which received high praise from the school authorities.

‘It was just over 15 years ago a bunch of joyful young men were put to the roads of this society by Royal College. Over the years, successive generations have come and left their mark on our community spanning over than 18 decades, and we as Royal College Group of 2004 are honouring those who came before us, while setting the stage for those who will follow,” holding a press conference to celebrate the occasion, the Group’s President Thiwanka Samaraweera stated.

The RCG ‘04 has already being recognised as one of the most active and outstanding alumni for their continuous contribution to sustain and uplift the standards of their school and their lively brotherhood. Last year the group completed three projects at Royal College.

They are Renovation Project of Advance Level Classes Washrooms, a Health Camp for Royal College Football Team and the School Landscape Project.

“The three projects were successful and as we celebrate the 15th anniversary this year, the RCG ‘04 has committed to sponsor and execute a few vital projects under the supervision and direction of Royal College Union (RCU), and will also continue with the tradition of hosting an exclusive Batch Tent for the flagship event of Royal College, the 140th Royal-Thomian Battle of the Blues Cricket Encounter at the SSC grounds,” he added.

With much praise coming in from the Principal of Royal College, B.A. Abeyratne, the RCG ‘04 has earmarked a few projects for 2019 as well. Among the core of projects will be the donation of Rs. 1 Million to the RCU for the school’s infrastructure development project. In addition they have already raised funds to nurture the school’s football team. As part of that project the RCG ‘04 will donate Rs. 400,000 for the development of the Royal College Football team on their facilities and wellbeing.

“We have also launched a project to hold an quarterly health camp for the members of Royal football team. We have doctors and medical experts in our groups. We did a few health camps last year as well, but from this year we will focus more on our footballers and make Royal a formidable entity among football playing schools,” Samaraweera went on to say.

Besides RCG ‘04’s in-house projects, they have already looked into reaching out the society and make projects that are viable and supportive for schoolchildren. As a kick-start the RCG ‘04 will sponsor a two-day educational tour for 60 students of Veheragala Vidyala, Mahanagapura, Ampara covering iconic locations and institutions in and around the city of Colombo.
