Sinhala, Tamil Literary works to be translated for North, South students
View(s):Literary works both Sinhala and Tamil writers, are to be translated and made available to students in the South and North, under a programme of the National Library & Documentation Services Board, said its Chairman P.M. Deepal Chandrarathna. He said they have selected at least 12 Literary works of prominent writers from the North and about 10-15 works of writers from the South for translation which are thereafter, to be printed and made available to students.
He said they have found that, presently, Literary works of South Indian writers were being prominently used by students in the North, instead of works of their own prominent writers of the past and hence, they want to change the situation. Mr Chandrarathna said that translators are being provided by the Ministry of Education (MoE) to carry out the translations, to be exchanged between Sinhala and Tamil students as well.
The books will be made available through school libraries, with funding from the MoE for the project. In addition, the Board also plans to have a competition in the North for the Best Short Stories and Best Novel. - DW
