Cabinet approves amendment to Mahapola Scholarship Act
View(s):The Cabinet has approved a proposal by Minister of City Planning, Water Supply & Higher Education, Rauff Hakeem, to amend the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund Act. One of the amendments relates to the Board of Trustees of the Fund.
The current Act states the Board should comprise the Founder, the Chief Justice, Secretaries to the Ministry of Higher Education, Education, and Trade, and two persons appointed by the Founder, for a period of 5 years.
The ‘Founder’ means the person/s referred to as such in the 1st paragraph of the preamble to the deed and, after his death, shall mean the Minister of Trade.
