Around 2,000 teachers who served as invigilators for the GCE Advanced Level exams held in August this year have still not received their payments, the Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) claimed. The union’s General Secretary, Joseph Stalin said the zonal offices had failed to deposit the money in the teachers’ accounts, even though four months had passed since the completion of the examinations.

The Examination Department officials said the department had not got enough funds for the payments and had requested more time to pay up. Around 6,000 teachers served as invigilators during the April exams. The union, however, said the department, a month ago, too, had asked for two weeks’ time to deposit the money, but it failed to honour its word. -CC
