Hand over official vehicles or else…: New PM’s Sec. to former ministers

Action could be initiated against former Ministers for not handing over their official vehicles, under ‘Misuse of State Property’ Laws, S. Amarasekara, Secretary to the newly appointed Prime Minister, told the Sunday Times.

He said they could also be charged under Election Laws, as the President has now called for elections, and action could be filed under Civil Law as well.
He said the Police will be instructed next week to initiate action against those who have failed to hand over their official vehicles to their respective ministries.
He said the former Ministers should have handed over their vehicles soon after the former Cabinet stood dissolved on October 26, after the appointment of new Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

“We expected the vehicles to be handed over, but most of them have not handed over their vehicles to date,” he said.
He also said that Ministry Secretaries will be directed to recover the vehicles. If not, they will be liable for disciplinary action.
