Pension increase for senior cinema artistes after 20 years

A monthly pension allowance offered to artistes, who have immensely contributed to the development and promotion of Sri Lankan cinema, had been increased, the National Film Corporation stated.

A concept of offering an allowance to yesteryear cinema artistes was introduced by former President J. R. Jayawardene in 1987. The monthly allowance which was started with Rs 500 was increased to Rs 2000 in 1998 but in last 20 years there had not been any increase.

N. Vithana, Media and publicity officer of the National Film Corporation said Public Administration and Management Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara has taken the initiative to increase the amount and a ceremony is organised to mark this occasion at 3 pm on May 15 at the NFC premises.
