Objections have arisen over a popular sports tournament which is being held to commemorate Independence Day. The trophy for the tournament is named Nidahas (Freedom) but in front of the name Nidahas is the sponsor’s name!
TAX HUNT
On the same sport Tax Officials stormed the headquarters of a popular sports body recently. Officials on duty were alarmed that these Tax Officials were there to dig into the movements of some individuals. In fact they were looking for one individual who had not paid his tax!
SPORTS AT A STANDSTILL
Sports fans say that a popular sports ground in the South cannot be obtained because the two officials who are in charge of the venue have their own private operations which prevents the genuine sports lovers from using the venue. A Cabinet Minister, who came to know of this, has threatened that he will see that the venue will be taken over by the authorities concerned so that the venue can be used by all concerned.
FALSE HOPES
The forthcoming elections of an international sports body in Sri Lanka are causing quite a lot of heartburn. Two sports in the body are run by interim bodies and what’s more, these two bodies are also gearing to take part in the elections as they have been given false hopes by the authorities concerned. It is a well known fact that interim bodies cannot take part in elections of this nature.
