The Ministry of Education (MoE) intends to appoint Teachers to serve in leading State hospitals where children are undergoing treatment for long periods warded, to prevent disruption to their education, said an official. The official said a pilot programme introducing Teachers from National Colleges of Education has been a success.

He said that, 5 Teachers, on completion of their annual service at Lady Ridgeway Hospital, were succeeded by 5 more Teachers, for a year.
In future, more Teachers are to be appointed to Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Apeksha Cancer Hospital, Maharagama, and Colombo National Hospital.
