3 Faculties of Jaffna University remain indefinitely closed

View(s):

Three Faculties of the Jaffna University remain closed indefinitely due to protests by undergraduates demanding the Govt resolve issues concerning Tamil prisoners still in custody. Officials said the Student Unions have also locked the premises, preventing the entry of staff members, thereby crippling the administrative activities of the Faculties of Arts, Management and Science.

However, the Medical Faculty continues to function without disruption.  The student unions are demanding that the cases of 3 prisoners held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, which were to be heard in the Vavuniya courts and subsequently transferred to Anuradhapura, to be taken up in the Vavuniya courts. The Unions have demanded that local Provincial Councillors and MPs in the district should discuss the issue and find a solution. - PCK
