Meryl G.A. Gunathilake assumed duties as the 19th Chief Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scouts Association last Friday at the National Scout Headquarters. The appointment was made by President Maithripala Sirisena, as Chief Scout of Sri Lanka.

Scouting, which is the largest voluntary movement for children, is now found in 168 countries worldwide, with Sri Lanka having more than 75,000 Scouts. The new Chief Commissioner expects to expand the number of Scouts to 100,000 by 2020. He is also an Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Power & Renewable Energy.
