Ananda prevailed over Thurstan in another thrilling encounter of the Milo U20 Premier Trophy inter-schools rugby knockout tournament when they recorded a close 30-27 in the semi-final played in the afternoon session at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

This close match saw Ananda sealing the game in the dying stages having taken a three point lead through an unconverted try scored by D. Ratnaweera. Ananda having led 13-10 at the breather accumulated their points through a goal, four tries and a penalty to the two goals, two tries and a penalty scored by Thurstan.

For Ananda M. Mendis, K. Perera, S. Wijeyasinghe, Y. Suwaris and D. Ratnaweera scored the tries with S. Tillekeratne booting over the penalty and conversion while Thurstan’s try scorers were K. Haputhanthrige who went over for two tries and one each by T. Rabel and N. Devinda while N. Dharmadasa put over the conversions and G. Chamara booting over the penalty.

Ananda will now meet the winners of the second semi-final between St Benedict’s and Maliyadeva scheduled to be played in the afternoon session today.    Referee – A. Shantha - MSA
