The Junior Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (JSO) will perform an exciting programme of music covering a variety of styles at their annual concert this year, which will take place on the 23rd of May, at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.

The JSO which includes some of the best young string players in the country have undergone training under their conductor Dushyanthi Perera, who is noted for the intensely musical performances she draws from any ensemble she directs. The programme opens with the popular St. Paul’s Suite by Holst, noted for its attractive use of English folk song elements, including the famous ‘Greensleeves’. The concert will also feature Srimal Weerasinghe, an extremely talented and dedicated young musician, as soloist in Handel’s Oboe Concerto in G minor. Handel’s sonorous melodic lines are amply present in this work which also provides an opportunity to the soloist to display virtuosity. The JSO is supported and sponsored by Kulturtanken, Arts for Young Audiences, Norway and the Embassy of Norway.
