The Table Tennis Tournament of the All Island School Games scheduled to be held at the S. Thomas’ Indoor Stadium at Mt. Lavinia on September 17 and 18 (yesterday and today) has been postponed. This decision was taken by the Ministry of Education.

This caused a big problem to the schoolboys and schoolgirls who were to take part in the tournament, said the coaches and parents.

The Table Tennis Tournament is in the second stage of the All Island School Games. The reason for postponing the event is that Sri Lanka is taking part in the 22nd Asian Junior Cadet TT championships to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from September 16 to 21.

This invitation has been sent to the Sri Lanka Table Tennis Association and the Education Ministry received the invitation at the last moment and the All Island TT Tournament had to be postponed. As a result the All Island School Games too has been disrupted.

The postponed TT tournament will now take place on October 1 and 2.

Sunil Jayaweera, Special Consultant Sports, Ministry of Education said that several school children too made the request to enable them to take part in the Thailand competition, and due to their requests the contest was postponed.

Under Stage Two, seven sports commenced yesterday. They are: Throwball -Eheliyagoda MMV, Volleyball – Dhamissara MMV Nattandiya, Chess – Nugawela MMV, Carrom – Trincomalee Orshil Vivekananda V, Physical Exercises – Badulla Vincent Dias Ground, Softball Cricket – Trincomalee and Aerobic Gymnastics – Nawalapitiya Anuruddha National School.

The finals will take place today and tomorrow.
