Parliament on Thursday will take up for debate the Resolution on the Appointment of the Constitutional Assembly.
The debate will begin at 9.30 a.m. and will continue till 7.30 p.m., Parliament officials said.

The resolution seeks to appoint a Constitutional Assembly  consisting of all Members of Parliament, for the purpose of deliberating, and seeking  the views and advice of the people on a new Constitution and preparing a draft of a Constitution Bill for the consideration of Parliament.

The debate had begun on January 9 but was adjourned when the SLFP and the joint opposition group sought amendments to the resolution.

The amendments are to be moved before the resolution is approved.
