Duvindu and Raveen see Trinitians through in a thriller

In one of the best school matches in Kandy in recent times, Trinity beat Dharmaraja by three wickets at Lake, View, yesterday.

Three fourths of the game belonged to Trinity. However, shell shocked Dharmaraja fought it out thrillingly and just failed. Had they possessed another effective bowler other than Pupulewatte, who had a math-bag of 11-116, they could have pulled it off.

Trinity’s heroes were the spin duo of Duvindu Tillekeratne (9 for 74) and Raveen Sayer (8 for 135). Sayer’s 66 in the first innings was of pivotal importance.

Dharmaraja 119 in 26.4 overs (Dishan Gunasinghe 50, Nivantha Herath 15, Asmitha Rajapakse 17, Duvindu Tillekeratne 4 for 23, Raveen Sayer 3 for 21, Thisaru Dilshan 2 for 37) and 219 in 76.1 overs (Ruchira Pupulewatte 53, Nivantha Herath 40, Gihan Vitharana 36, Shehan Vitharana 36; Raveen Sayer 5 for 114, Duvindu Tillekeratne 5 for 51)

Trinity 220 in 50 overs (Raveen Sayer 66, S. Sanogeeth 35, Nushan Weerasinghe 22, Shavindu Amerasinghe 29, Naveen Ekanayake 25; Ruchira Pupulewatte 6 for 49, Asmitha Rajapakse 2 for 27) and 120 for 7 in 23.5 overs at close (Nushan Weerasinghe 35, Sachira Gamindu 21 n.o, Thasika Dodanwela 19 n.o, Ruchira Pupulewatte 6 for 67)
