Shaminda ton props McLarens
Opening batsman, Shaminda Fernando from McLarens Group hogged the limelight, as he registered the first century of the tournament in the ongoing 5th Prestige Auto Mobile (Pvt) Ltd sponsored ‘BMW- Hyundai’ Cup, MCA ‘C’ division 50-Over League Tournament, continued over last week-end.
Fernando who hit a swashbuckling 114 in 94 deliveries inclusive of six sixes and fourteen fours was engaged in a 155 runs opening stand with C. Mahil (55); thus McLarens put on a challenging score of 249 in 45.2 overs, which was enough and more for them to beat NTB ‘A’ by 112 runs; McLarens leg spinner H.A. Sandaruwan bamboozled the bankers with an impressive spell of 9.4 -2-28-5.
However, McLarens failed to take full advantage of the good start, as NTB spinner Tharindu Lakshan put the brakes on the rest of the batting with an inspired spell of 9.2 -1- 55- 5. O. Illeperuma (56) and A. Sirimanne (8-2-11-5) were the wind in the Colombo Dockyard sails as they sailed to an unexpected win over HSBC ‘A’ by 72 runs.
Sameera Padmaperuma snapped up 5 for 26 in eight overs, as Nations Trust Bank ‘A’ crushed JL Morison by seven wickets. A solid opening stand of 92 runs between U. Siva (47) and C. Sansaka (45), followed by a 3rd wicket stand of 82 runs between K Prasan (62) and L. Wickramasinghe (39) steered PABC Bank to a classic five wickets win Std. Chartered Bank.
A half century by Isuru Perera (56) and two fine spells by Isuru Gunasekera ( 7-2-29-4) and S. Sandaruwan (6.3-1-20-4) gave People’s Leasing & Finance PLC a comfortable 102 runs win over Airport and Aviation. The tournament will be continued this week-end with a card of six matches which will conclude the league stage of the tournament.
