St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena, will celebrate 150 years of providing “Human and Christian Education in Sri Lanka”, this February, with a series of programmes, with the Benedictine Walk as its highlight.

Founded in 1865 by the De la Salle brothers, the school has been nurturing boys from varied backgrounds- mostly drawn from Colombo and its suburbs.

The Walk will be held on February 7, based on the Benedictine jubilee year theme, ‘Faith, Justice and Joy’. It will commence from the College premises at 3 pm and proceed to the College playground via the streets of Kotahena. The Walk will be followed by a mini carnival and a musical extravaganza with the renowned choral group ‘Voice Print’ and the bands ‘Marians’ and ‘Doctor’, along with other guest artistes. Children will be provided with their own amusement.

The parade will include the participation of the Rev. Brothers from the De La Salle community, Old Ben Priests, Students from the Primary section and the Upper school, Parents, Teachers, Past Teachers, Old Boys domiciled here and overseas, and well-wishers.

Special merchandise for the Walk- T-shirts, Caps and Wrist Bands- will be available for sale at the College from February 1.

The organising committee for the Walk is Co-Chaired by Rev. Bro. Praveen Vaz and Mr Randolph Perera, with the leadership and guidance of the College Director, Rev. Bro. Janaka Fonseka, and coordinated by Mr Gratien Fernando. The Benedictine fraternity is cordially invited to share the joy of their Alma Mater’s Sesquicentenary.
