An emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has been summoned for today, to discuss a series of allegations against Chief Justice (CJ) Mohan Peiris and also call for his resignation, BASL President Upul Jayasuriya said last night.

One allegation is that the CJ conspired with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa to pave the way for the defeated leader to remain in power, though losing the poll.

“The Chief Justice was with the outgoing President early on the morning of January 9.What was he doing there at that time?” Mr Jayasuriya asked.
He said the Executive Committee would also discuss several other allegations against the Chief Justice.
