A leading cricketer who occupies the political stage these days in support of a big man may have other reasons for doing it. It is speculated that he himself plans to be a candidate at the next general elections and is taking this chance to hone his talents.

BETTER AT TRAINING ATHLETES

A leading athlete took the stage recently and started praising a certain individual. To add punch to the speech this individual took out a piece of paper and started reciting a Sinhala poem (a kaviya). This person was so taken up with the situation initially that the poem was recited incorrectly. People who were listening to the speech, which was given live on TV, thought that it would be better if the individual concentrates on training athletes, because she is very good at that.

DOUBLE GAME

All who are interested in cricket are keeping their ears glued to the ground to find out what is happening to the election of a president to a leading club where two top individuals in the game are set to contest. It surely is going to be one hectic affair because both are well known in the scene. One individual is however heavily involved in coaching.

FIGHTING SHY OF THE PHONE

Rugby players are not too keen in answering the phone these days least they be called in to join a bandwagon which is gathering momentum these days with the days being numbered to a big occasion. A player who did not want to be identified said that he was not keen in be in the limelight as he started playing the game for the sheer love of it and did not want to be lured into the politics that surrounds it.

SOMETHING UP THEIR SLEEVES?

The now famous Night Races was not held in Kandy last year as the prelates did not want it to be held at a place which is considered as a sacred city. Taking a look at the Race Calendar for 2015, the Night Races are listed to be held in Kandy around April this year. How come an event which was cancelled last year be listed in the Race Calendar this year? The organisers are so sure that they will be able to conduct the races without a hitch. Could they be having something up their sleeves?
