NFOA awards to honour senior citizens

The NGO Forum on Ageing (NFOA) held their awards programme ‘Honouring Senior Citizens’ at the International Studies auditorium of the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies last Sunday. The project was first begun in 2012 by Mano Candappa and was held this year for the second time with project chairperson Estelle Joachim and her committee organising the event.

Eight eminent women and eight men were chosen for the awards. The women are Deloraine Brohier, Dr. Malini de Silva, Prof Swarna Jayaweera, Chasnyn Musafer, Sumitra Peries, Sumana Saparamadu, Kamini Vitharana and Latha Walpola. The men who were honoured are: Somapala Jayawardena, B.M.N. Jurangpathy, Sudasinghe Nandadasa, Summa Navaratnam, W.G. Siripala, Dr. C. Thurairaja, H.N. Wijesena, N.W.E. Wijewantha.

Prof. Siri Hettige was the guest speaker at the event at which the guests of honour were Hector Yapa, Anton Fernando and Jamshid J. Sourjah.
