An Excise Department building in Nuwara Eliya, built 10 years ago is to be demolished as it has not met proper building standards.

The first floor of the two-storey building was used as an office while the upper floor served as a meeting space and lodging purposes.

Those who worked at the now abandoned office premises said the contractor hadn’t erected the building according to the required standards and as a result cracks were appearing in the walls, while water was dripping from the upper floor and the electrical wiring had been done haphazardly .However, Nuwara Eliya District Secretary, D.P.G. Kumarasiri said he has allocated about Rs. 7 million for repairs and has appointed a committee to look into it.
