Ladies’ College continues winning spree
The winning streak of the Ladies’ College (LC) continued as Museaus College (MC) struggled to give chase on the Beira waters at the 11th Annual LC vs. MC regatta, yesterday. LC rowed to earn a handsome 48 points against 4 points scored by their opponents MC.
LC Crew got off to a good start with Ishara Abbey winning the A scull event, and continued to rule the waters throughout the regatta. The curse that seems to have befallen on the Musaeus Crew showed no sign of easing off as they struggled to keep pace.
LC A pair Isabella Sansoni (Stroke), Thiranya Fernando(bow) continued the winning trend clocking in a handsome 4.17 to win the event, while A Double scull (Yellani Rasaputhra, Anoushka Tissera) also beat the MC crew.
The only race Musaeus College was able to secure a win was in the B pair, with Ranuli Wickramasekara and Malki Wijayasekara finishing the race at 4.22.
Ladies set off to an early celebration when they won the B four race stroked by Davina Koch : Chanika Goonetilleke (Three), Anoushka Tissera (Two), Tarea Karunaratne (Bow) Ashmitha Guneratne (Coxswain) clocking in 4.10. Musaeus College crew gave a good fight, till the last 300m, only to watch the LC team speed off to the finish line.
The boat race gave a spectacular finish to the regatta with LC crew pushing forward to finish at 3.58, matching their own record set in 2012. Stroked by Isabella Sansoni, the crew comprising Thiranya Fernando(three), Ishara Abbey(two) ,Anika Ahamed (Bow), Tehani Walpola (Coxswain) displayed superior form and determination to win when they jumped ahead at the finish line. - Pic by Anuradha Bandara
