Defending champions, MAS Intimates Unichela registered their second successive win, when they beat John Keells Group by four wickets in the ongoing, 22nd Singer-MCA Premier League Cricket Tournament 2015, continued last weekend.

John Keells electing to bat, was reeling at 106 for 6 in 31 overs and was put back on track by skipper, Janaka Gunaratne (55 in 48 balls, inclusive of three sixes and three fours) and Ishan Jayaratne (52 in 36 balls with three sixes and three fours) being associated in a 102 runs partnership for the seventh wicket, which helped them to reach 213 in 46.5 overs. Paceman Ishara Amarasinghe (8-3-23-2) and spinner Sohan Boralessa (10-1-32-2) were the pick of the bowlers for Unichela.

MAS Unichela reached their target after a shaky start (2 for 24) in just 39.1 overs with Mahela Udawatte top scoring with a responsible 70 runs in 83 balls inclusive of a six and five fours. Udawatte, was associated in two match winning stands, first with Prasanna Jayawardena (46) (70 runs for the 3rd wicket) and then with skipper, Chamara Silva (27) (70 runs for the 4th wicket).

Tharanga Paranavithana is caught behind

Commercial Credit and Finance, too scored their second successive win, beating Sampath Bank by 51 runs.

Chamara Kapugedera missed a century once again, for Commercial Credit, hitting a classic 94 runs in 82 balls, inclusive of two sixes and six fours; (Kapugedera in his earlier match against Seylan Bank scored 91 runs); Kapugedera, thus held the middle, as Commercial Credit reached a respectable 243 in 48.4 overs.

Sampath Bank, despite a valiant 86-runs in 76 balls inclusive of a six and ten fours by Thilina Kandamby, crumbled to 192 in 45.2 overs, as the rest of the batsmen struggled against the Commercial Credit’s bowlers Lahiru Gamage (8-2-22-2), Sandun Weerakkody (8-2-8-1) and Malinda Pushpakumara (8-1-34-4).

The Sampath vs. Seylan match played at Moratuwa, ended in a tie.

Good batting by Kaushal Silva (73), Romesh Buddika (62) and Thilina Kandamby (43 not out) helped Sampath Bank to finish with 253 for 6 in 45 overs.

Ian Daniel (60) and Chanaka Wijesinghe (50) made the run chase interesting, but their effort for Seylan failed to take them over the line, as bad light halted play at 227 for 6 in 42 overs, equalling the D/L par score.

In the two matches played mid week saw MAS Unichela and Seylan Bank recoding wins over Sampath Bank and HNB.

Openers Kusal Perera and T.M. Dilshan shared a match winning 186 in off 145 balls for the first wicket enabled defending champs MAS Unichela to defeat Sampath Bank by seven wickets. Perera slammed a lusty 131 in 94 balls which included eight mighty hits over the ropes and ten boundaries while his partner Dilshan cracked a 65 ball 82 with eight fours and a six.

Primosh Perera’s knock of 105 was the highest for the bankers.

Seylan Bank recorded a thrilling one run over Hatton National Bank in a low scoring match played at the NCC grounds. Chasing a victory target of 127 HNB’s hopes were shattered by Nuwan Kulasekera (3 for 20) and Kaushalya Gajasinghe (3 for 37) to be dismissed for 126.

In the match between the 2014 joint winners, MAS Intimates Unichela ‘B’ and Textured Jersey, the former managed a one-run win on the D/L method.

John Keells Group ‘B’ went home to lunch after beating Union Bank by eight wickets, the match ending at 1.00pm. The Bankers sent into bat, fell like nine pins to JK opening bowler, Chandana Jayasanka (8-3-14-5), all out for 64 in 28.2 overs.

An unbroken 100-run partnership for the sixth wicket between M. Rafi (57 not out) and Prasanna Jayamanne (37 not out) gave Hayleys Group a creditable five wickets win over MAS Silueta in the ongoing MCA ‘B’ Division 50-Over league Tournament, continued on Wednesday

Opening batsman, Ruvinda Shemen (90 in 86 balls, inclusive of four sixes and seven fours) and middle order batsman, Nipun Karunanayake (50 not out) guided DIMO to a comfortable 47 runs win on the D/L method, over Singer ‘A’.
