Nets BC nets the crown
Two free throws netted by skipper, Duke Rajapaksa with just 20 seconds remaining in the game gave Nets Basketball Club a heart stopping 47/45 win over fancied Moratuwa BC in the Masters Inter Club Men’s Over – 35 Final, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
The Women’s Over -35 final and the Men’s Over -45 Final, preceded the Mens Over-35 Final.

In the Men’s Over-35 Final, Nets BC fought tooth and nail to wrest back the lead in the 3rd quarter, 35/31.
The match winning shooters for Nets BC were Duke Rajapaksa and Asela (15 points each); Thamindra Fernando, Gayan Meedeniya and Aruna Wickramage (13 points each) scored for Moratuwa.
In the Mens 0ver-45 final, the Lanka Legends BC opened full throttle in the final quarter, to beat the Old Bens 41/25.
Lanka Legends, superbly led by Priya Cooray, played a controlled game, keeping their reserves intact, as they led 12/9 in the first quarter and at half time, 20/16; they took the 3rd quarter, 27/20.
Samson de Mel, Piyal de Silva and Kumar Fernando (15 points each) were the top shooters for Lanka Legends; skipper Sonal de Silva and Mohamed Aslam (10 points each) top scored for the Old Bens.
In the Women’s over-35 final, Angels BC, led by Champa Kumaratunga proved too strong for HNB, as they beat them by a huge margin of 40/16, after leading 21/8 at half time.
The Angels piled up their points through Champa Kumaratunga, Shervon Perera and Manori Hettiarachchi (12 points each); Malani Jayasinghe (10) did the bulk of the scoring for HNB.– L.R.
