Sri Lanka’s Worldlink Travel Group has launched a subsidiary, Mango Holidays to promote luxury holiday packages to Sri Lanka
Worldlink has been in the tourism industry for the past 23 years and is said to be one of the top travel consultants in Sri Lanka. “There are so many small but luxurious hotels in all parts of Sri Lanka. They are on par or better than some of the best hotels in the world. We felt that there is a huge opportunity for us to promote these properties to the high end tourist to Sri Lanka. Mango Holidays would target this segment,” said Ahintha Amerasinghe, Managing Director -Worldlink Travel Group, in a media statement.

He said Mango Holidays would be using a few costly but novel marketing methods to target high spenders to Sri Lanka. “Our very first transaction was a small group of seven from Canada who has come to Sri Lanka for a holiday. The tour price for each of them was close to US$2,500 per person and they are staying at some of the best hotels in Sri Lanka. They only wanted excellent quality hotels,” the group managing director said.

The Worldlink Travel Group consists of seven companies each focusing on one segment of the tourism industry. Worldlink Air Services is the agent in Sri Lanka for South African Airways, Princess Cruises, Cunard Lines and Costa Cruises. Worldlink Travel is IATA ticketing agency handling the travel of some of the top corporate while Worldlink Tours is the inbound arm of the group.

Two years ago the group opened the 14-room luxury hotel, The Amaara Sky Hotel in Kandy.

Group director Danukh Amerasinghe, who handles sales and marketing of the Amaara Hotel, said they were planning to start on the second hotel project, the 20-room Amaara Hotel in Sigiriya.
