The GK company, aiming to detect and seize more GK Company assets and properties of former directors based on a Supreme Court order, has seized a boutique hotel named ‘Tripna’ in Aluthgama owned by the former Ceylinco Chairman.

The seizure on July 15 follows information received by them, a GK Director Dushanthi Hapugoda told the Business Times.
She said that this hotel was owned and managed by Tripna Travels and Tours Company Ltd and its directors were Lalith Kotelawala and his sister Sherrene Chiristabel Wijerathne.

This company was registered at the Registrar of Companies on the 22 December 2009 two months prior to the court order given to acquire the assets of former GK directors, she said, adding that Kotelawala has violated the court order.
Ms. Hapugoda said she visited the hotel along with the GK Task Force and seized the property. More valuable assets have already been identified and the Task Force appointed by the Supreme Court is expected to move in to acquire and liquidate them to rais funds to repay depositors she said.

She noted that CIESOT assets close to Rs.6.5 billion will be disposed obtaining a court order and the Chief Justice Mohan Peiris’s action to step down from the GK case will not hinder the process of acquiring those assets.
