Dharmaraja in smashing win over Kingswood

Dharmaraja did the hard yards on the second day to come up with a smashing nine wickets win over Kingswood in their 108th Battle oif the Maroons at the Asgiriya Stadium.

Overnight batsmen Chandimal de Silva and Kavinda Ratnayake went on to make sizeable contributions (55 and 38 respectively). Skipper Lanka and Weragoda pushed the score along to obtain a lead of 26 runs.

Venaka Galhitiyawa, who didn’t bowl that well on the first day, made amends and completely bamboozled the batsmen to retain the dream figures of 19.1-10-18-7, The left arm spinner had two in the first innings.

Kingswood was bowled out for 79, with twenties from Shanuka Ratnayake and Tharindu Liyanage. Needing 54 for victory in thirteen overs, the Rajans raced to the target in eight overs. Rameesh Ranasinghe remained unbeaten on 31.

Galhitiyawa was deservedly picked as the man of the natch. Incidentally this is Dharmaraja’s third win in the last four encounters.
