Maliyadeva College Kurunegala defeated home town traditional rivals St. Anne’s by an innings and one run in their 31st Battle of the Rocks big match encounter at the Welagedera Stadium in Kurunegala yesterday.

Maliyadeva was well set for the kill when play stopped for lunch as they had the Annites batting the second time struggling on 65 for 4. The Annite batsmen though putting in some resistance was unable to prevent the Devans from securing an innings win as they folded up for 138 falling short by one run.

The morning session of play saw Maliyadeva opting to make a declaration on their overnight score of 264 for 7 which came on the back of a quick fire 116 off 100 balls by Minod Bhanuka and a half ton by Sachintha Peiris. This was in reply to the Annites score of 125.
Minod Bhanuka was adjudged the best batsman and man of the match with Keshan Wijeratne the best bowler and Janith Perera of St Anne’s taking the best fielders prize.
