Sri Lankan to coach badminton in Thailand

Dharshana Fernando, former Sri Lanka badminton player who is based in Canada has been invited by a leading badminton academy in Thailand to conduct a series of coaching programmes for their students. Fernando migrated to Canada soon after his playing career to pursue a new life as a badminton coach and is considered as one of the top international coaches in the country.

“I’m delighted with the invitation, especially in a country where badminton is a top sport. I’m looking forward to pass on the finer points of the game which I have acquired for the past 46 years as a player and then a coach,” said a thrilled Fernando.

While working as a Banker, Fernando initiated a badminton coaching school in Toronto, Canada, which has earned a good reputation. He will continue the tour by visiting Xiamen, in the Fujian province of China with the intention of following an advanced badminton training programme.

“I intend to learn new techniques in badminton coaching and training. This sport has helped me achieve levels I could not imagine of. And I’m ever is grateful to the sponsors for arranging this international tour,” he added.

On his way back to Canada Fernando will stopover in Sri Lanka for few weeks with the intention of conducting a few training programmes for the rural youngsters. – NA
