Last year’s Under 19 inter-school cricket champions Richmond College Galle ended their cricket season in style when they secured their tenth outright win for the season with a crushing innings and 181 runs against S. Thomas’. The specialty of their wins was that they won their last five matches by innings.

The Thomians were no match for the Richmondites who made an imposing score of 322 as they bowled out the Thomians for scores of

81 and 52 respectively. The win for Richmond is no doubt a morale booster for the upcoming annual big match against traditional rivals Mahinda.

Trinity’s right arm spinner Raveen Sayer fulfilled an ambition of a schoolboy bowler when he had the honour of becoming the first bowler in the ongoing school cricket season to take 100 wickets.

Raveen achieved his feat in the match against Royal at Asgiriya yesterday. It’s a pity that a bowler with great potential has been overlooked for selection to the Sri Lanka U19 squad.

Royal Panadura secured their seventh outright win for the season with an eight wickets win over Lumbini MV and prior to that they outclassed the hapless S de S. Jayasinghe MMV Dehiwela by an innings with the match being over in one day. They achieved the two victories within a space of three days and also this was the second time that S de S. Jayasinghe MMV has lost a match in one day this season with the previous being against Gurukula MV Kelaniya three weeks ago.

There were 13 other outright wins recorded during the week ending with Mahinda Galle, Dharmapala Pannipitiya, Moratu MV and Sri Sumangala Panadura securing innings wins over President’s Rajagiriya, Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda, Holy Cross Kalutara and St. John’s Panadura.

In the other outright wins Sri Devananda MV Ambalangoda, competing in the second division, recorded a fine victory over top division side Revatha MMV Balapitiya. This was Sri Devananda MV’s second successive win of the week having overcome Karandeniya Central by seven wickets.

Prior to that defeat Revatha MMV defeated Bandaranayake MMV Gampaha before their shocking loss to neighbours. Anuradhapura

Central too recorded a stunning win when they beat fancied Kingswood by eight wickets.

Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa’s outright win over President’s Rajagiriya saw the latter undergoing their second defeat within five days. Karandeniya Central though losing to Sri Devananda MV came back to record a ten wicket over Piliyandala Central.

St. Anthony’s Wattala, Asoka MV and Kegalu MV were the other teams to record outright wins defeating St. Sebastian’s Katuneriya, Sri Jayeawardenepura MV Kotte and St. Patrick’s Jaffna.

Meanwhile St. Peter’s opener Dineth Thimodya became the fourth schoolboy cricketer to reach the 1000 runs mark which he achieved this with a score of 54 in their match against Gurukula MV Kelaniya. Dineth reached the milestone in his 15th match which comprised two tons and four half tons.
