A knock of 111 by Wanindu Hasaranga was in vain as rain hampered the second day’s proceedings when Richmond was in a strong position against Maliyadeva in the Inter-School Under-19 cricket encounter played at Galle.

Wanindu’s knock which comprised 11 boundaries saw Richmond resuming on their overnight score of 244 for 6 went on to make 261 for 8 declared in reply to Maliyadeva’s 140.

Ananda too was in a strong position against Bandaranayake College Gampaha on the second day when rain stopped play in the match played at Ananda Mawatha.

St. Sebastian’s was on top against Royal when play stopped for tea on day two in the match played at Moratuwa. St. Sebastian’s resuming on their overnight score of 92 for 3 going in for quick runs was helped by Avishka Fernando.

Avishka who was on unbeaten on 57 on day one went on to make a knock of 116. His knock which came off 136 comprised 11 boundaries and a six enabling his side make a score of 189 for 8 declared.

The opening day’s play saw Royal taking first lease of the wicket being skittled out for a paltry 92 with right arm spinners Anuk Fernando and Isuru Mendis and right arm pacie Avishka Fernando who together shared eight wickets doing the damage. Royal batting the second time fared better but was in a perilous position of 148 for 7. They now have a lead of 50 runs with two wickets in hand which could be insufficient with a session of play left.

The match at Pannipitiya between Dharmapala and Maris Stella got off to a late after lunch. Later the match was called off early due to bad weather which ended in a first inning win for Maris Stella.

Kegalu Vidyalaya had the better of the exchanges, by far, in their Under-19 Inter-School Cricket match against Kingswood College played at the Kandy Police ground yesterday. However, the duration of around two and a half hours of play proved decisive in their search for a win.

Kingswood next play D.S. Senanayake for the Hashan Tillekeratne Trophy on November 13 and 14 in Colombo.
