UCSC recruits new students for specialized JavaSE and JavaEE Short-term ICT training programmes

The University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC), the trusted name for high-quality ICT higher education in Sri Lanka, announces that it has started recruiting new students for specialised, short-term ICT training programmes scheduled to commence in September and October this year.

UCSC is a centre of international repute in training in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). UCSC prepare students for careers in Programming/Software Engineering, Systems/Network Administration, Web Development, IT Project Management, Digital Media and Animation, Database Administration and Development, IT Systems/IT Management, Business Analysis/Systems Integration.

The short-term training programmes are designed with a view to enable a participant to learn about a particular programming language, a design methodology, or to the use of specialized packages. They are designed by the staff of UCSC and closely follow the industry needs and standards. All programmes are conducted by the Computing Services Centre, the Consultancy arm of the UCSC which was established in 1990 to provide Consultancy Services to the IT and related industries.

Java Application Development using JavaSE and Advanced Java Application Development using JavaEE are two of the courses schedule to commence in the last week of September 2013.

Java Application Development using JavaSE course is for those who need to learn JAVA language from the beginning to an advanced level. The students who enrolled to this course Prerequisites some programming knowledge with an understanding of programming concepts and theory. Whoever needs to specialise in one of the world’s most demanding programming languages, this course is best suited. Course Duration is 08 days and classes are conducted on Saturdays from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.

In this course participants will be trained to develop Standalone, Database, Network, GUI and Web-based applications while specialising the JAVA language.

Main Course Contents of the Java Application Development using JavaSE are Overview of Java programming language, Data Types (Primitive, Reference, Arrays’), Variables, Operators (Mathematical, Relational, Logical, Bitwise, Special), Control Statements (Selection, Repetitive), Arrays (One Dimensional, Array of Arrays, Ragged), Overview of Object Oriented Analysis (Use Case diagram, Class Diagram), Object Oriented Concepts using Java (Abstraction, Encapsulation and Data hiding, Inheritance, Polymorphism), Java Applications and Applets, Input and Output mechanisms,  Exception Handling, String Manipulation, Interfaces and Packages, Event Handling, Threads and Multi-threading, Inner Classes, Collections, Cleanup Finalisation and Garbage Collection, Java Security, AWT and Swing, Java Database Connectivity, Java Socket Programming, Introduction to generics.

Advanced Java Application Development using JavaEE course is for those who need to specialize in JavaEE. Whoever needs to specialise in Web based application development, this is match for it. New students should have knowledge about JavaSE. Course Duration is 08 days and classes are conducted on Saturdays from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm.

In this course participants will be trained to develop Web based, Networked and Component–based Distributed Scalable applications.
Main Course Contents of the Advanced Java Application Development using JavaEE are J2EE Overview, J2EE Architecture, J2EE APIs and containers, JDBC, Design of JDBC: Driver Types, Typical uses of JDBC (with MySQL and postgreSQL), JDBC Configuration, Executing SQL Statements:  Managing Connections, Statements, ResultSet, SQL Exceptions, Populating Database, Use of Excel API (jXLS), Java Persistence API (JPA), Servlets and JSPs, Java Server Pages, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), RMI, Network Programming, Spring and Hibernate, Introduction to Struts framework, Development and Lifecycle tools, Design Patterns

With the course work participants will face the complex real world challenges and get hands-on practice with comprehensive and complete training. All the participants are given access to our Learning Management System (LMS).

University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) will be awarding a valuable certificate with local and global recognition to students who successfully complete these courses and the certificates comply with international standards and cannot be counterfeited.

In addition to these two courses, Computer Aided Drafting Using AutoCAD 2010, Upgrading and Maintenance of Personal Computer Environment, Linux Systems & Network Administration, Advanced Multimedia Web Design & Development Techniques and Dynamic Web Application Development with PHP & MySQL are also schedule to commence in end of September and first week of October.
