The Sri Lanka Under-20 rugby team regained their position at the Top Division in the Junior Rugby Asiad when they recorded a comprehensive 31-nil win against Singapore at Kaohsiung in Chinese Taipei yesterday. The Sri Lankan juniors finished their campaign successfully as an unbeaten side to play alongside Japan, Korea and Hong Kong in the top group next season.
Sri Lanka earlier beat Thailand by 24-20 after an absorbing game on Tuesday before taking on Singapore in a winner-takes-it-all decider. On Thursday Singapore recorded a major upset when they thrashed Thailand by 24-7, making yesterday’s game a crunch decider.
However the Junior Tuskers led by three-quarter Richard Dharmapala, proved all wrong by pulling off a one-sided win after leading 10-nil at halftime. They rampaged to the top tier as the only unbeaten side from the Junior Asiad Division II Championship.
