Over 150 cricketers from the low tiers to the premier in addition to women players who represent tournaments conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are set to be honoured at the Dialog Sri Lanka Cricket Awards 2013 which will take place on September 10 in a grand scale. The venue for the event however is yet to be decided by the organisers. The announcement was made public at a launching ceremony held at Hotel Taj Samudra in Colombo with top officials of SLC, sponsors Dialog Axiata and Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews gracing the event.

According to SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga, Dialog, one of the two sponsors of the national cricket team has come to an agreement with cricket’s local governing body to host the most prestigious cricket awards night of Sri Lanka for three years.
“Cricketers who performed well at domestic and international level for the 2012/2013 season will qualify for awards. This includes cricketers from Premier Tier A and B, Sara Trophy, Donavan Andre Trophy, Under-23 and Women’s tournaments. The recipients will be selected by a special panel which includes the selection committee and the cricket committee of SLC. In addition the Dialog Peoples’ Player of the Year award will also be selected by via sms votes from the public,” Ranatunga said.

Dialog Group Chief Marketing Officer, Amali Nanayakkara, revealed that though the agreement is initially for a period of three years, they are keen to host the event for years to come.

“We at Dialog as sponsors of the Sri Lanka cricket team take great pleasure in partnering the Sri Lanka Cricket Awards. As we all know cricket is a passion in Sri Lanka and it gives us more pride in sponsoring cricket in addition to other sports such as rugby,” Nanayakkara said.
