St Benedict’s College registered a 38-run win against St Thomas’ College Matara in a second round match of the All Island Under 17 Division One cricket tournament, which was played at the Uyanwatta Stadium in Matara on August 14.

Being asked to bat first, the visitors scored 208 for 7 in their 50 overs. Sithum Wijesinghe scored 47 off 66 balls with four boundaries and Thenuka Silva scored a patient 44 off 108 balls with half a dozen boundaries and a six. Nimantha Kawishwara, Dilip Tharaka and Vidath Jayanidu captured two wickets each.The Thomians were given a flying start by opener Nevindu Udesh who scored 64 off 58 balls with ten boundaries and a six but the rest of the batsmen could not impress except for Heshan Hasanka, coming in at number nine, who was unbeaten on 26 scored in 39 balls (five boundaries). However he ran out of partners with the total on 170. Geethika Jayathilake captured four wickets.
