Good for cattle

Recently a top level team visited Jaffna and wanted to see the grounds that has been constructed to play the world’s most popular game at staggering cost of Rs. 45 million. The officials walked around the ground and after much discussion stated that the grass that has been planted on the ground is not fit for football but to feed cattle!

Lucky 29

Polonnaruwa was the center for a Youth Sports Festival and all those who were involved with the event turned up prim and proper for the event. However 29 hand picked sports officers had nothing to do but to collect the allowance that was doled out to them and just pass the time. It so happened that nine individuals were even asked to stop work for negligence but nothing happened the lucky 29!

No VIPs for the photo session

Could there be a difference between two top sports officials? This was noticed when the Sri Lanka team for the Nanjing Sports Festival came together for an official photograph before they took wing to China to take part in the Festival. So the team posed for the photograph without the VIPs who were expected to be photographed with them.

VIPs excluded

The run-pass-and tackle game hit a high note with the staging of the Carlton Sevens and the new grounds at the Colombo Race Course came in for high praise. The security too was tight and the security personnel on duty body checked most of the spectators and even removed the cigarette packets, cigarette lighters and match boxes from those who came to see the games. However it was noted that some VIPs watching the game in the stands were smoking! It looks as if the tight security was only for the ordinary spectators but not the VIPs.

The cement deal

A leading cement company has come forward to sponsor a key T/20 tournament which is progress now. It is learnt that the cost for sponsoring this tournament is very low. Could this be because a leading official is involved with this cement company?

Not even O/L qualified

A recent advertisement in a newspaper asked that a person with a Degree is being sought by a leading sports body to manage their affairs. The person who has been recruited for the job, however, is not even O/L qualified and is not a fit person to manage the affairs of the sports body. The question is, who could have recruited this guy?
