Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel celebrates Vesak

Vesak was celebrated on a large scale at the premises of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel with the Nepali Ambassador Prahlad Kumar Prasai gracing the event as the Chief Guest. A large number of Sri Lankans and well wishers from the Israeli community also attended
Following the religious observances, a pirith chanting session to invoke blessings on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa took place. A Nepali Buddhist monk who participated in the event also chanted pirith to invoke blessings.

Bhakthi geetha was sung by an eight member choir comprising Sri Lankans from the community. The devotional songs were enjoyed by all.

Ambassador Sarath Wijesinghe in his address to the gathering stated that the celebration of Vesak was the most important event in the Buddhist calendar stating that the Buddha’s teachings are as relevant today as they were many centuries ago. The Ambassador spoke of the virtues of following the SigalavadaSutta, which is the Layperson’s Code of Discipline, stating that this enables one to lead a successful and disciplined life.

The Embassy also participated at two Dansalas it coordinated with members of the Sri Lankan community in Tel Aviv.
