Nalanda swim through to claim Triangular title

Nalanda College Colombo earned major honours at the Schools Swimming Triangular Championship, held for the Lion Grecian Gunawardena Challenge Trophy on Tuesday. This swimming meet was held at the Nalanda College swimming pool with a large number of swimmers representing hosts Nalanda, D.S. Senanayake and Thurstan colleges.

Nalanda clinched the overall championship after accumulating a tally of 245 points while Thurstan, with 195 points, finished second overall. D.S. Senanayake gathered 76 points overall. The victorious Nalanda swimmers were also adjudged the champions of the senior and juniors age categories on their way to becoming the overall winners.

Nalanda’s Bhanuka Wijesundara won the Under-19 championship while his team-mate Kalana Perera clinched the Under-17 title. The overall victors won their third age category title when Amodya Dulshan won the Under-9 championship.

Despite placing themselves third overall, D.S. Senanayake won championships in three age categories. Their Imesh Chathuranga won the Under-15 championship while Kavindu Perera and Sohan Yapa lifted the Under 13 and Under 7 championships respectively. Thurstan’s sole age group championship came from Ramin Ratnayake, who won the Under 11 title.

The donor of the challenge trophy, Lion Grecian Gunawardena, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
