Blue Star and Don Bosco recorded stunning wins as Super Sun staged a gallant display to hold favourites Java Lane to a thrilling draw in three Dialog Champions League 2013 football matches played yesterday.

Over 5000 spectators in Kalutara were jubilant when African player Koa Kolayami hit the net at the 80th minute to give Blue Star a stunning win against Saunders at Vernon Fernando Stadium in Kalutara. The game was highly contested by both sides as the scores stood nil-all at halftime. After the break both teams tried to consolidate over the other with attacking football as the Saunders goalkeeper excelled in between the posts to save obvious goals until the deadlock was broken by Kolayami for Blue Star.

Don Bosco who travelled to Kurunegala underwent a tough game to overcome the resistance from Pelicans and pulled out a deserving 2-1 win. Don Bosco had an early lead in the eighth minute through Priyankara Silva and again in 23rd minute through Diwan Wiched.

But the Pelicans made a strong comeback in the second half and were rewarded with a goal in the 70th minute through Pradeep Rodrigo. The remaining 20 minutes was highly competitive as Pelicans battled for the draw but ran out of luck despite Don Bosco playing with 10 players during the last 40 minutes. Mohamed Rameez was red carded for a serious offence in the 50th minute.

At City Football Complex, Java Lane had to be pleased with a draw though they opened scoring through Mohamed Sarwan at the 12th minute. After the initial breakthrough the visitors took the game lightly but newcomers Super Sun gave them an unexpected run. Java Lane lost the rhythm in the process as Super Sun equalised in 78th minute through Mohamed Yusuf to salvage a draw.
