The second Mahaweli Reach Junior Tennis Championship took place last week in Kandy with 16-year-old Mohamed Naveed grabbing major honours. Naveed, a student of Zahira College Matale won four titles, including the ‘plum event’ – the Boys’ Under-17 final beating Mohamed Fahd.

Brothers Uvin and Mihin Jayalath from Trinity College were also among the winners. Oshini Herath won the Girls’ Under-11 title, while Hiruni Weerasekara secured the Girls’ Under-17 event, beating Nimaya Gamhewa.

There were 105 competitors at this tournament which was spread over six days. The Managing Director of Mahaweli Reach Hotel, Jayantha Panabokke gave away the awards.
