Bonjour Cinéma, the Francophone Film Festival in Sri Lanka which is now being held at Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies auditorium (BCIS) , Colombo will show Canadian French film ‘Molly in springtime’ (Le printemps de mélie), Romanian film ‘Crossing dates and Swiss film ‘The Translator’ at 11 am3 pm and 6.30 pm respectively on Sunday March 31.

The weekend film festival showcase ‘Lyrics Revolt’ (Qatar) at 3 pm and ‘A Screaming man’ (Frence) at 6.30 pm on April 5. On April 6, Saturday the festival will screen Romanian film ‘Moneu Exchange’ at 11 am, ‘Nostaligia for the Countryside’ (Vietnam) at 3 pm and ‘Another Man’ (Switzerland) at 6.30 pm. The festival will be over with the Movie Master Class held on April 7.

In Molly in springtime (Le printemps de mélie) Balthasarville celebrates the arrival of spring with a Flower Festival. When the King distributes honeycake to all the young girls, Molly Gingerbread gets the charm and is crowned Queen of the Festival, choosing Léon as her king. But the rogue Bonifacio, scheming to become king himself, steals a magic apple and poisons the town’s water supply.

Everyone falls sick. The indomitable Molly, aided by grumbly old Hedgehog, finds the antidote, cures the townspeople and unmasks Bonifacio as a liar. With Léon’s help, the rogue is banished and the town saved.

The film won many awards including Grand Prize, Award of excellence, The Alliance for Children and Television- Canada – 2010,
‘Crossing dates’, a movie that mingles 3 separate stories which take place over two days. The characters’ paths intersect, and they affect each-other unintentionally. The three stories are united not only by the characters but also by re-readings of the same theme at different registers It tells that each day of our lives brings us new encounters with our fellow-men: our paths cross, we see each other, and speak or don’t speak to each other. Then we walk away to the next encounter. Both chance and intention play a part in these encounters, and the consequences can remain like footmarks on the paths of our lives. The film screens under More Suitable for Adults tag.

The Swiss film ‘The translator’ (La traductrice) revolves around Ira a Russian girl who lives in Geneva with her mother and knows very little about her motherland. Tashkov is an alleged Russian mafia godfather, in prison waiting for a political-economical trial. Translator for Tashkov’s defence lawyer, Ira very quickly falls under the spell of Tashkov, a powerful and cultivated man, who seems to read her thoughts.
