The Royal College Group of Sixty Six hosted the school’s First XI squad for dinner at the Harbour Room, Hotel Taprobane after their resounding victory over traditional rivals, S.Thomas’, Mt. Lavinia as one of their batch-mates — Dilip Somaratne is the Director of Cricket and played a major role in moulding the side.
The batch has a national Test player in Jayantha Amarasinghe, who still holds the record for the most number of first class wickets in Sri Lanka (currently a selector of the national women’s team), a Ceylon Schools wicket-keeper/batsman in Ray de Silva, Michael Muller and the late Gajan Pathmanathan who also played for Royal, and both Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
Incidentally, the Royal captain, Devind Pathmanathan is his nephew.
