Sri Lanka’s Environment Police is cracking down on food products unfit for consumption being sold by traders at Gasworks Street in Pettah. Seen here is a policeman pouring kerosene oil on sacks of old potatoes. The bad stocks are then removed by the Colombo Municipality. Spoilt grapes were also among items sold in the market. The goods are rejected by shop owners from trucks bringing the goods from outside but collected by small time traders and sold to unsuspecting consumers. Pic by Nilan Maligaspe.
